T3: Creating Baseline Community Profiles |
|
- Data Collection & Integration Report
A list of information categories and the relevant datasets/data types required for the assessment of the environmental and socioeconomic conditions of the targeted localities were identified using the Pressure-State-Response framework. A final and comprehensive metadatabase of the data collected and integrated into the GIS based information systems developed for each of the targeted localities was produced after taking into consideration the recommendations of the steering committee members from the involved local councils. The list of information categories, the metadatabase as well as a screen shot of the developed GIS based information system for each local council are presented in the Data Collection and Integration Report .
- Community Baseline Profiles
A baseline profile was prepared for each of the targeted communities in Arabic. Each profile includes an assessment of the community's socioeconomic and environmental conditions as well as the institutional structures and practices. It has three main sections:
- Section one provides an overview of Bethlehem District including location, landuse/land cover, physical characteristics, water resources and geopolitical situation. It also covered the part related to using the suitability analysis for sustainable land use and urban environmental management.
- Section two provides the assessment of the existing conditions in the community and has five subsections: (1) location and land use/land cover; (2) socioeconomic conditions (demography, education, health , economic activities and labor force); (3) Infrastructure (electricity & communication, transportation, water, wastewater and solid waste); (4) environmental conditions; and (5) summary of major indicators used in the assessment.
- Section three describes the institutional arrangements and structures including the organizational structure; duties, responsibilities and powers of the council; and the relation between local councils and the Ministry of Local Government.
The main results and findings are presented in summary documents for each community. These were provided to decision makers during the meetings organized in December 2007.
